The Marvel-series AlphaServers (ES47, ES80, and GS1280) support some quite interesting features. When powered the ES47 boots an embedded operating system running on an i386 EX that organizes one or more connected AlphaServers into many logical systems each capable of running its own operating system instance. I can, for instance, partition my 2 CPU system into two logical systems, each with a single CPU running different operating systems.
Marvel also supports RAID memory via a 5th RIMM on each memory channel. Whereas normal ECC memory can correct single-bit errors and detect double-bit errors, the memory system on Marvel can correct double-bit errors.
The system uses more than 600 watts, so it was very kind of the Computer Action Team at Portland State University to host it for me in their lab for nearly 10 years.
My good friend Ian made a video for his YouTube Channel about my ES47.
